Joann barwick biography

JoAnn Carol Ridgeway Barwick, aged 94, passed away peacefully at Indian River Estates in Vero Beach.

From humble beginnings in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, born to the late Russell Ridgeway and Cora Quenemoen, she spread her wings in New York City and rose to become a home furnishings and interior design icon in the publishing world.

Her life was one of exceptional creativity, energy, inspiration and love.

Luck, natural talent, and the advice of a good mentor got JoAnn an NHFL Scholarship to Parsons School of Design which along with some writing courses at Columbia University paved the way to JoAnn’s first magazine job at American Home as the Assistant Decorating Editor.

Next was Modern Bride Magazine, as Decorating and Tableware Editor. It was a big step up when she was asked to become the Decorating and Building Editor at Good Housekeeping Magazine.

During the early years, JoAnn married the late Jack Barwick and had two children, John and Alison Barwick.
